It’s the end of our first day at the BPM Show in Birmingham’s NEC – the world’s largest producer and DJ event! This year, Point Blank teamed up with Ableton to take over The Learning Zone – the creative hub for all things production, DJing and music-making.
As part of our takeover, course tutor Paul Crossman and vocalist Viv May demonstrated how to record vocals in Ableton Live, including harmonies, overdubs and adlibs. Paul then showed how experienced producers treat a vocal with EQ and compression techniques as well as grouping the vocals for a more organised and creative session.
Next, DJ tutor Ben Bristow then took centre stage, showing off his scratching skills and letting the BPM crowd get hands-on with some of the industry-standard DJ equipment from Pioneer.
It wasn’t only our lessons and tutors who were drawing a crowd – Ableton’s Push had producers and artists swarming the booth, eager to have a go on their famous hardware-software instrument.
There was plenty to see and do all over the arena; with booths from the likes of Pioneer, Korg and Allen & Heath, there was tonnes to see and lots to play on.
Make sure you join us tomorrow back at the Learning Zone for some more DJ tips from Ben Bristow and exclusive live deconstructions from Paul Crossman! We’re off for a well-earned beer!
