Point Blank Developer and Tutor Ski Oakenfull recently gave three EMC oriented seminars at the Amsterdam Dance Event. In the second one, he broke down the SBTRKT track ‘Wildfire’ which is one of the standout tracks from their self-titled 2011 album. Ski used Ableton Live 8′s native devices and Library to recreate the all sounds of the track, and has kindly agreed to make the Bass sound available for download as a Rack Preset.
The bass line from Wildfire is a main focus of the track, and gives a real dubstep feel with the LFO controlling the cutoff frequency. Ski used two of Ableton’s native synths in a chain to make up the sound. Firstly Operator provides the dirty digital FM sound which is very prominent in a lot of recent dubstep tracks, and secondly Analog to take care of the warmer sub frequencies. At the end of output chain, he added a Phaser and Reverb to get the sound as close as possible to the original. It is worth noting that the LFO rate is set to sync to the current Tempo of your track.
