The BBC’s Fast Train Academy is a day of training workshops, panels and seminars for freelancers in the media industries. It’s a chance for media freelancers to brush up on their skills and learn some new techniques. We were honoured to be invited along to deliver a workshop on the advanced skills of Radio Production as part of the academy.
We sent one of our radio tutors, Fari Bradley, to Media City in Manchester where she presented to a small group of freelance radio professionals and offered them an insight into some more advanced skills and techniques. Over the course of the workshop we helped the radio professionals to brush up on their current skills as well as find new areas of interest.
During the session we covered a vareity of topics, including:
- Advanced editing techniques on Audition 6
- Sound processing for different audiences/demographics (podcast vs broadcast)
- Cleaning up damaged or noisy audio (noise eduction/pops/clicks/distortion)
- The pro’s and cons of varying file formats (MP3 vs wav/aif)
