SXSW 2013 Preview

Two huge music-related events are happening in America this week and next, so we thought we should shed some light on them and give you a taster of what’s happening at both. In this feature we’ll be previewing South By South West (aka SXSW) in Austin, Texas and, in another, we look at Miami’s Winter Music Conference (or WMC as it’s know). Both events attract a huge turn out from the electronic music industry, and it’s often the case that industry figureheads will hit both events as their start and end dates are so close together.

In case you don’t know, SXSW focuses on arts and technology. Despite the fact that there are lots of parties and musical performances taking place in and around SXSW, the event’s main draw is actually the conferences and numerous interactive spaces. SXSW is split into three main areas – SXSW Music, SXSW Film and SXSW Interactive – of course, we’ll be focusing on the Music aspect here and listed below you’ll find some of the highlights from the event’s almost endless list of concerts, parties, conferences and gigs.

Tuesday 12th March

Deadmau5 & Richie Hawtin: Talk. Techno. Technology.
A slightly controversial conference will see techno demi-God Richie Hawtin discuss technology with Deadmau5 – a man who is loved and hated in equal measure. Definitely one of the highlights of the entire SXSW event.

Azari & III
Canada’s nineties-loving twosome will no doubt bring the house down at their showcase. Azari & III are renowned for their outlandish shows and larger-than-life personalities. Although it’s only 45minutes long this should be a great showcase.
